Course Introduction

This Recruit to Train Postgraduate Diploma, a Department of Health initiative, provides specialist post-qualification training for Child and Adolescent (CAMHS) workers within the CYP IAPT model, focusing on the clinical areas of child mental health: anxiety, depression and conduct disorder. Students will gain a critical understanding of the CYP IAPT model of service change, outcome monitoring, and fundamentals of evidence-based psychological therapies to common mental health problems in childhood and adolescence (anxiety, depression, and conduct problems). At UCL, they will develop skills in Autism Spectrum Disorder/Learning Disabilities (ASD/LD) Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (IPT-A) or Under 5?s, depending on their module choice. This programme is aimed at candidates who have an appropriate educational background, and preferably some experience with CAMHS, who wish to develop their skills for children and young people. CAMHS professionals will be well placed to become skilled and creative independent practitioners of their chosen speciality.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology) and/or a registerable professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. medicine, psychology, social work) from a UK university or overseas professional qualification of an equivalent standard. Candidates without a degree, but with a minimum of three years professional experience in a CAMHS (or equivalent) setting together with a relevant professional qualification will also be considered.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: IELTS overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests; overall score of 100 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening in Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English; pass at Mastery level when achieved with a pass at Mastery level in the Pitman International Spoken test (ISESOL) in City & Guilds (Pitman Examination in International ESOL); 69 overall, with a minimum of 59 in each Communicative Skill in Pearson Test of English (Academic); successful completion of ISE III with a ?merit? in all components; overall mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the four subtests in UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes; overall mark of 70% with at least 65% in each of the four elements of the examination in UCL International Pre-Master's Courses; mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the subtests in UCL Pre-sessional English Courses.
