Course Introduction

This MA combines a broad understanding of this fast-changing economy with specialist music and media expertise, equipping students to be both entrepreneurs starting their own businesses and ?intrapreneuers? bringing a sought-after entrepreneurial approach into established organisations. The programme covers entrepreneurship, innovation, marketing, finance and business networks. Inter-disciplinary work and cross-industry innovation is actively encouraged. The new Faculty of the Arts and Creative Industries has unprecedented expertise and practical experience across a range of creative disciplines, with staff members engaged in research and teaching. This expertise has now been allied to that in the Business School, with its Masters programmes in innovation and marketing. You will be taught by academics who are actively engaged in practice and research that feeds directly into teaching, with experience of relevant industries, self-employment and working with entrepreneurs and business advisors.

This exciting new MA Creative Entrepreneurship (Media/Music) aims at equipping you with the knowledge and skills to be successfully self-employed, start your own company or bring a valuable entrepreneurial approach to larger companies. It combines the insights of specialist strands with the broad focus required in this age of convergence, offering transferable skills applicable across the creative industries. As a student on this programme you will be learning with our expert and diverse team through face-to-face workshops, tutorials, seminars and interactive lectures, supported by a fully-developed virtual learning environment. These will be complemented by industry masterclasses. Interactive seminars and problem-based learning are at the heart of this MA. You will take an active learning approach in class, discussing your reading and project work with your fellow students and tutors, analysing case studies and applying theoretical approaches to real-world problems. Specialist staff will work with you to develop your ideas and evaluate their potential and feasibility.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a second class honours degree (2:2) or above in an appropriate subject. We will consider applications from students with academic backgrounds in areas including business, sociology and law as well as the arts. Students with other degrees are welcome to apply provided they can demonstrate appropriate levels of experience. We also normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: an IELTS score of 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all components); 58 (with 51 in all components) in Pearson Test of English; 87 (with at least 21 in listening & writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading) in TOEFL (IBT); 176 overall (no less than 169 in any component) in Cambridge First, Advanced, Proficiency - taken post January 2015.
