Course Introduction

This course will explore the position of the designer and maker within contemporary culture and society. Students on the course come from applied arts, design and fine art backgrounds. This course is subject to re-validation. Re-validation is a process that makes sure students get a high quality academic experience. During re-validation there maybe are some changes to course content and structure. Please contact us if you have any questions about this course. To develop a project from proposal to final exhibition; To explore new and existing materials and processes; To engage with contemporary debates in applied arts, design and object-based art. This will be through the development of a personal project; to explore human-object relationships and the meaning of making; to produce a wide range of works during the course and for the final show. Our MA Designer Maker graduates leave with the skills and knowledge to have careers as practitioners, creative industry professionals, curators, freelance designers, workshop leaders and teachers, as well as the potential to progress to PhD study.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have: BA (Hons) degree or equivalent academic qualifications; Alternative qualifications and experience will also be taken into consideration.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have an IELTS level 6.5 or above, with at least 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
