Global Health Geographies MRes

Course Introduction

Alongside the opportunity to challenge common ideas and theories about development and reconsider the diversity of populations, economies, cities and governance practices in the Global South, you will develop social science research skills and methods appropriate for further study in this field.

* A pre-doctoral training programme taught in conjunction with the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP)

* This MRes is an approved pathway for ESRC funding, enabling students to apply for ESRC 1+3 funding to cover the MRes and a PhD

* Examine pressing global health challenges in light of the significant conceptual, methodological and empirical contributions of critical geographical scholarship

* Develop field-based research skills through a field trip to the self-defined global health hub in Geneva, Switzerland

* The Global Health Geographies MRes is a pre-doctoral training programme version of the MA in Global Health Geographies

Facilities

* Geospatial analysis, remote sensing and environmental modelling software and computing facilities

* Field equipment and laboratory facilities to analyse environmental samples, the River Laboratory, a micromorphology and micropalaeontology suite and a luminescence dating laboratory

* Learning resources and libraries at Queen Mary, the University of London and other collections such as the British Library

Qualifications Required

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in a relevant subject.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have a 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in a relevant subject. Students need to have an IELTS 7.0 overall including 6.5 in Writing, and 5.5 in Reading, Listening and Speaking; TOEFL: 100 overall including 24 in Writing, 18 in Reading, 17 in Listening and 20 in Speaking.
