Course Introduction

This new degree programme is designed to equip graduates with a first degree in a relevant numerate subject with the technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge required to develop innovative engineering products and solutions and turn them to financial advantage. The programme combines a first-rate engineering education in areas that are key to developing new technologies (namely, advanced materials, renewable energy and biomedical engineering) with modules on project management and entrepreneurship to equip students with the fundamentals and skills required to manage innovation. Students undertake a group and an individual project with a focus on innovation.

Mechanical Engineering is a dynamic and vibrant place to study and do research. Located in central London it was the first mechanical engineering department in the UK. It has a long reputation for internationally leading research, funded by numerous organisations, and industry and quality teaching. The department benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and close links with industry and has access to expertise in other disciplines, including engineering and management science within UCL. Graduates will be well placed to understand new technologies, develop and use their creativity to identify needs and opportunities and generate innovative solutions, thus preparing them for successful careers in today's competitive, technology and knowledge-based economy.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university in a suitable engineering subject, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Candidates with qualifications in other subjects allied to engineering will also be considered.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: IELTS overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the subtests; overall score of 92 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening in Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT; overall score of 176 with 169 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; overall score of 176 with 169 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English; pass at Mastery level when achieved with a pass at Mastery level in the Pitman International Spoken test (ISESOL) in City & Guilds (Pitman Examination in International ESOL); 62 overall, with a minimum of 59 in each Communicative Skill in Pearson Test of English (Academic); successful completion of ISE III with a ?pass? in all components; overall mark of 65%, with at least 60% in each of the four subtests in UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes; overall mark of 65% with at least 60% in each of the four elements of the examination in UCL International Pre-Master's Courses; mark of 65%, with at least 60% in each of the subtests in UCL Pre-sessional English Courses.
