Course Introduction

Dental Public Health focuses on preventing oral diseases and improving the oral health of populations. Addressing the major oral health issues and the global challenges facing dental care systems in the current political economy requires strategic planning, evidence-informed decision-making and strong public health leadership. MSc students will also complete a research dissertation in the second year of their programme based on their own research interests (up to 20,000 word written report). This course is for: Dentists and Dental Care Professionals; Public health practitioners and advisors; Health promoters; Health service managers; Anyone with an interest in public health, dental service planning and policy making.

An online platform provides weekly study materials, videos and resources with interactive content to support students? independent learning. Student discussion forums will facilitate group learning and peer feedback. Students will be expected to use their individual study time preparing for, or following up on formal study sessions; reading; producing written work; completing projects; and revising for examinations. Assessment is via a range of methods including weekly quiz-style questions, written coursework, Adobe Connect oral presentations and timed examinations at a designated examination venue in your home country.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a recognised undergraduate degree at the level of 2:1 or higher or international equivalent Degree disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, health sciences, oral Health Sciences, Public Health or social sciences will be considered. We acknowledge professional practice gained from a wide variety of relevant backgrounds.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.5 including 6.5 in all four components or equivalent if their first language is not English
