Course Introduction

Civil Engineering to develop your engineering expertise in line with the ever-changing demands of the profession. We will enhance your knowledge in all the essential areas of engineering, from geotechnical engineering to construction management. Our postgraduate engineering courses enjoy widespread professional recognition, and are accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) of the Institutions of Civil, Structural, and Highways and Transportation Engineers. This course consists of a number of self-contained, taught modules, organised around the various areas of Civil Engineering.

There is a highly practical emphasis to our Diploma. You will learn the general theory and then apply it during fieldwork and by working on projects in our extensive laboratories, using the latest software. These projects provide you with the learning opportunities and practical skills you will use in your future career. You will leave with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date practices and theories in civil engineering. You will have the option to transfer to our MSc course, providing you meet the required standard. Many of our PGDip students go on to become accredited chartered engineers. The course will prepare you for employment in a variety of dynamic consultancy and contracting roles in fields as diverse as structural engineering, highways and transportation, aviation and infrastructure projects, geotechnical engineering and water and coastal engineering.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students should have a 3rd Class BEng or minimum 2:2 BSc Civil Engineering. They are expected to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.
  • International entry requirements: Students should have an overall IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).
