Course Introduction

The Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry MSc is a profitable clinical and business approach to tooth preserving caries management in dental practice. The programme is designed for dentists and/or DCPs to develop and enhance Minimum Intervention preventive and tooth-preserving operative, patient and clinical practice management skills. Giving you the tools to maximise the clinical and financial potential of your dental practice.

Our Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry course, open to dentists and therapists, provides the latest evidence-based knowledge in minimum intervention/minimally invasive dentistry and enables students to integrate this patient care philosophy into their dental practice. There is focus on using the team of dental care professionals to assist in delivery, on suitable marketing strategies and on learning practice-based research methodology. You will study and practice the latest minimally invasive remineralising and tooth preserving operative technologies, and adhesive restorative materials and techniques, to prevent, manage and treat dental disease aesthetically and effectively.

The course will give you: a scientific basis in cariology and disease pathology; experience of detection, diagnosis, risk assessment and care planning for patients with complex dental health problems; prevention and control management strategies (including remineralisation) for patient groups and individuals; the skills to develop marketing strategies to promote your practice and the minimal intervention care philosophy to patients using the latest social media frameworks; the ability to carry out minimally invasive tooth-preserving aesthetic and effective clinical treatment of patients with caries and other restorative or aesthetic problems; modern minimally invasive aesthetic operative skills required for tooth preparation and restoration and direction on how to put these concepts into real-life practice from day one of the course.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students should have a dental qualification acceptable to the College (BDS or BSc (or equivalent) in Dental Therapy), or full registration with the UK GDC or international country?s equivalent. Current employment as a dentist or dental therapist in a dental practice, dental school, hospital, or community dental services environment, UK or abroad.
  • International entry requirements: Students can demonstrate their English Language Proficiency with any of the following tests and grades: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill; TOEFL IBT: 92 overall, with a minimum 23 in each skill; Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE): 176 overall with a minimum of 169 in each skill; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 overall with a minimum of 169 in each skill; Pearson Test of English (Academic): 62 overall, with a minimum of 52 in each skill. The tests listed above are valid if they have been taken within the past two years.
