Course Introduction

Education and Communities will push you to the limit - and you?ll be supported all the way by our world-class academic staff. Research at Cass School of Education and Communities is innovative and responsive to the diverse educational needs of communities: in our own east London community, the rest of the UK, and internationally. Our main research interests are: early childhood policy and practice, learning and teaching, language and diversity, work-based learning, teacher education, race and community, education equality issues, comparative education, professional education, social work knowledge and practice and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). All Postgraduate Research students are supervised by at least two research-active staff. Your supervisors will support your programme of research through regular meetings and reviews. At the end of your MPhil, you will be required to submit a 40,000 word thesis which outlines your research findings. You will then have to undergo an oral examination (a viva) on your thesis.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Applicants those who have relevant research or work experience, but no degree, they can still be considered for admission.
  • International entry requirements: The minimum requirement for a research degree is an IELTS Academic English score of 7.0 overall (minimum of 6.5 in all components). This should normally have been gained within the past two years.
