Course Introduction

This programme offers a comprehensive research training in developmental and educational psychology. It is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council and can lead to further study at doctoral level. Students will develop in-depth knowledge of specialised research skills, and be able to use a broad range of methods to critically appraise and conduct rigorous research in the field. Students learn how to assess the contribution of psychology to policy goals and how to evaluate education policies. This programme is suitable for those who wish to pursue a research career either in academia or the public or private sectors, or progress to further professional training. Graduates of this programme are currently working as researchers in the public and private sectors or are engaged in PhD study. This course is accredited by Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Students will take this course in flexible study mode also.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, either in psychology or a related subject, that has been accredited by the British Psychological Society or a minimum of a second-class Bachelor?s degree that contains at least 60 credits (excluding year one) in the five core areas of psychology (Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personalities and Individual Differences and Social Psychology).
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: IELTS overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests; overall score of 100 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening in Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English; pass at Mastery level when achieved with a pass at Mastery level in the Pitman International Spoken test (ISESOL) in City & Guilds (Pitman Examination in International ESOL); 69 overall, with a minimum of 59 in each Communicative Skill in Pearson Test of English (Academic); successful completion of ISE III with a ?merit? in all components; overall mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the four subtests in UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes; overall mark of 70% with at least 65% in each of the four elements of the examination in UCL International Pre-Master's Courses; mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the subtests in UCL Pre-sessional English Courses.
