Course Introduction

The programme will enable you to make evidence based assessments and apply them to clinical decision-making using state of the art techniques. Furthermore, it will serve to enhance your level of professional confidence and leadership skills through group project work, encouraging teamwork and management skills. This in turn will equip you to consider alternate employment settings such as allied healthcare leadership or teaching posts. Gain further in depth understanding of theoretical,physiological and pathological aspects of oral diseases management in a variety of diverse patient profiles. This degree is designed as a blended learning programme delivered mainly on line with practical skills lab work and group exercises deliverd at UCL Eastman Dental Institute. There are multiple exit points (Certificate/ Diploma) for qualifying students who are not able to complete the whole MSc qualification. This degree will enhance your knowledge and understanding of Dental Hygiene which can be applied in a clinical setting. The completion of a the thesis in year 3 will provide students with research and management skills to equip you to consider alternate employment settings such as allied healthcare management or teaching posts.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: All applicants must hold an approved dental hygiene qualification and be currently working as dental hygienist in practice with at least three years? clinical experience post qualification.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: IELTS overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests; overall score of 100 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening in Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English; pass at Mastery level when achieved with a pass at Mastery level in the Pitman International Spoken test (ISESOL) in City & Guilds (Pitman Examination in International ESOL); 69 overall, with a minimum of 59 in each Communicative Skill in Pearson Test of English (Academic); successful completion of ISE III with a ?merit? in all components; overall mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the four subtests in UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes; overall mark of 70% with at least 65% in each of the four elements of the examination in UCL International Pre-Master's Courses; mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the subtests in UCL Pre-sessional English Courses.
