Course Introduction

The Data Science MSc provides advanced technical and practical skills in the collection, collation, curation and analysis of data. This is an ideal study pathway for graduates with a background in quantitative subjects, or who possess relevant work experience, who want to gain experience in current methods and techniques of data science.

Description

The Data Science MSc degree will provide you with the practical skills needed to assemble collate store, manage and analyse data efficiently. You will also gain the skills necessary to select the appropriate statistical and computational data modelling and analysis techniques to evaluate data science activities and projects.

You will complete the course in one year, studying September to September and taking a combination of required and optional modules totalling 180 credits, including 60 credits that will come from an individual project.

Assessment

The primary method of assessment for this course is a combination of written examinations, essays, coursework and individual or group projects and oral presentations. The individual project will be assessed through a dissertation.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: A Bachelor?s degree with 2:1 (Upper Second Class) honours is required in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, or Computing Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics or Statistics Physics Natural Science Electronic Engineering Geographic Information Systems Operations Research In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.
  • International entry requirements: Students can demonstrate their English Language Proficiency with any of the following tests and grades: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill; TOEFL IBT: 92 overall, with a minimum 23 in each skill; Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE): 176 overall with a minimum of 169 in each skill; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 overall with a minimum of 169 in each skill; Pearson Test of English (Academic): 62 overall, with a minimum of 52 in each skill. The tests listed above are valid if they have been taken within the past two years.
