Course Introduction

Technological change and the digital economy raise new economic and managerial challenges for businesses and public and private sector organisations. Our Postgraduate Certificate in Business Innovation is ideal if you wish to acquire advanced, practical knowledge of these challenges and the best ways of approaching and tackling them.

We will consider the theoretical foundations of managing business innovation, but we will also look at real-life applications of this theory, the realities of contemporary professional practice, and how you can encourage, nurture and manage innovation. This combination of practical insight and analysis of real-world issues will enhance your career development and equip you for a range of management roles.

The programme will give you a deep understanding of the importance of innovation for rethinking a range of ideas, issues and structures within management, including business strategy, corporate assets, intellectual property rights, institutions, organisations and firms, entrepreneurship, and globalisation in a changing world. You will develop topical, focused and practical insights into the fundamentals of business innovation, including the technological aspects and associated business models and working patterns.

TEACHING

Teaching may include formal lectures, seminars, and practical classes and tutorials. Formal lectures are used in most degree programmes to give an overview of a particular field of study. They aim to provide the stimulus and the starting point for deeper exploration of the subject during your own personal reading. Seminars give you the chance to explore a specific aspect of your subject in depth and to discuss and exchange ideas with fellow students. They typically require preparatory study.

CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY

Graduates can pursue careers in management, business, industry and policy-making. Possible professions include human resources officer, management consultant, or operational researcher.
