Course Introduction

The Biomedical Sciences MSc provides opportunities for a broad learning experience in biomedical sciences and research training that will enhance students' ability to be competitive in the biomedical employment field, continue their learning if already in employment and/or develop a research career in this field. The overall aim of the programme is for students to develop an advanced understanding of the development, structure and function of biological systems, together with an understanding of the mechanisms underlying normal function and dysfunction at molecular, cellular and systems levels. Students will acquire and put into practice the research methods skills necessary to investigate mechanisms and develop knowledge in this field. The programme is particularly suitable for students with an undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences, life sciences or related subject area who wish to develop an advanced understanding in the broad subject area of biomedical sciences. It provides opportunities for students to develop and broaden their knowledge and research skills and better prepare for future employment or specialist postgraduate research.

Qualifications required:

  • Domestic entry requirements: Students need to have a minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences, life sciences or related subject area, or a medical degree (MBBS), or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.
  • International entry requirements: Students need to have: IELTS overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests; overall score of 100 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening in Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English; overall score of 185 with 176 in all subtests in Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English; pass at Mastery level when achieved with a pass at Mastery level in the Pitman International Spoken test (ISESOL) in City & Guilds (Pitman Examination in International ESOL); 69 overall, with a minimum of 59 in each Communicative Skill in Pearson Test of English (Academic); successful completion of ISE III with a ?merit? in all components; overall mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the four subtests in UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes; overall mark of 70% with at least 65% in each of the four elements of the examination in UCL International Pre-Master's Courses; mark of 70%, with at least 65% in each of the subtests in UCL Pre-sessional English Courses.
