Course Introduction

If you are passionate about helping people and organisations manage their wealth to achieve their financial goals, then the BA (Hons) Financial Services Degree programme could be for you.

Financial services are a necessary component of every successful business around the globe. Studying the subject can help you launch your career in a fast-paced, exciting and profitable industry.

This hands-on programme aims to give you the academic knowledge and experience required to begin a career in financial services, with the potential to work for global banks, investment houses, stockbrokers, wealth managers and local banks & building societies. Alongside learning, you also get the chance to conduct critical research with our experienced staff, learn from guest visitors and take part in invaluable practical modules.

**Year One**

Mapped to the Level 4 Diploma of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), this introductory year examines the regulations and practices that cover financial services and products. You’ll cover key topics, from the decision-making processes of individual investors and borrowers, to the most effective methods of communicating information. Students who complete year one are awarded a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Financial Services.

**Year Two**

As you progress into your second year of study, the level of complexity is increased as you delve into the business elements of financial services. Looking at the principles of business lending and financial risk, this year focuses on the micro environment, where you will analyse buying behaviour, international banking and planning investment returns. By the end of this year you’ll have refined your organisational skills in financial planning, ready for progression ptthe final year. Students who complete year two are awarded a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Financial Services.

**Placement Year**

Sandwich and placement years give you the opportunity to gain further insight into the industry or career you are seeking to follow. This enables you to contextualise the theoretical models and concepts discussed in the classroom in the workplace. Furthermore, if you choose to take advantage of a placement or sandwich year, this version of the degree will help to increase your employment prospects by acquiring skills and gaining an understanding of what employers expect of graduates.

**Final Year**

By this final year, you can confidently draw on governance and regulations to give sound, financial advice. As you can now calculate risk appropriately, this year focuses on refining existing skills such as financial planning while expanding your learning to the wider financial environment, global and strategic. At this level, you’ll look at high-stake financial services, such as portfolio management, trust management and investment practice. Students who complete year three are awarded a BA (Hons) Degree in Financial Services.
