Course Introduction

Buying and merchandising are specialist retail functions, which lie at the heart of a fashion brand’s ability to respond effectively to fast changing fashion trends. They play essential roles within the industry and demands professionals who have a good eye for trends, for marketing, budget planning and management.

You will gain industry knowledge and skills where you will be able to learn about textiles and clothing manufacture, competitor shopping and analysing trends and sales patterns to make commercial decisions. You will develop and strengthen many skills including numeracy for buying and merchandising, presentation, team working and negotiation.

You will be able to apply the knowledge and skills developed on the programme through a dissertation or a consultancy project in your third term. Another important feature is the strong link we encourage with businesses and employers through our academic staff and via the Careers and Business Relations Department and the Regent’s Alumni network.

The programme includes a fashion study trip to another country. You may also have the opportunity to take part in optional study trips to other fashion venues.
