Brunel University London

Course Introduction

This degree provides in-depth understanding of how the economy and corporations function, how resources are allocated and how incentives are aligned between shareholders, managers and employees. Economics teaches you to examine how consumers, firms and governments make decisions which eventually determine the allocation of resources and output growth. In Management, you’ll learn about the organisation and coordination of the activities of a business in order to achieve defined objectives. In your final year, you can choose from management courses such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business Ventures, International Marketing and Strategic Management, along with specialist courses in economics. Your studies will include a module on econometrics to help you to develop the data modelling skills using computer programmes – a skill highly valued by finance and investment employers. If you decide to study professional accountancy after you graduate, our degrees offer some exemptions to ACCA and CIMA papers. As part of your studies, you also get training and access to industry analytical tools including SAS, Eviews, Bloomberg, Reuters and STATA. On a four year thick sandwich degree you will typically spend the whole of Year 3 on placement. Economics at Brunel is ranked 57th in UK and 9th in London (The Complete University Guide 2018). Business and Management is ranked 54 in the UK and 8th in London (The Complete University Guide 2019).
