The study of art history gives you the opportunity to see and interpret moments in history through their architecture and material culture. The parameters of the art history major at NCH have been set as widely as possible, from Europe to China, with a time span that extends from antiquity to the contemporary. The courses include cultural surveys as well as more intense media'specific subjects including architecture, landscape, painting and ceramics. The central aim of the history minor is to enable students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the human past and the ways in which humans have organised their lives materially and conceptually as individuals and societies, and to reflect critically on the complex and contradictory information available to us now about the past.
