Course Introduction

The Business with Marketing BSc (Hons) pathway provides students with a knowledge of marketing that is grounded in theory and practice.

This degrees should appeal particularly to you if you see marketing as being central to an organisation’s strategy, and if you are interested in the broad range of activities that fit within the general category of marketing. You will gain a broad understanding of business from a marketing perspective. You will explore the breadth of the marketing function within an organisation and the extent to which it is central to strategy for many businesses. You will study the techniques and approaches used by businesses to build an understanding of their customers and to target their offerings appropriately.

You will learn about a wide range of marketing issues including the marketing mix, consumer behaviour, branding and advertising. The changing nature of marketing will be an important component of your studies. Marketing is covered both by specialist modules and electives that reflect the variety of the marketing function in contemporary businesses and provide an excellent basis on which to enter a career in marketing.

The Business with Marketing pathway will equip you with core and specialised marketing knowledge along with transferable skills that prepare you for a wide range of roles in the marketing industry, such as specialist advertising/publicity business or within the marketing team of a large organisation.

There are five Business Mangement degree pathways taught at Cass Business School: BSc Business Management, BSc Business with Finance, BSc Business with Marketing, BSc Business Management, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship and BSc International Business. At any time during the first-one-and-a-half years of the degree, students can switch to a different pathway, subject to the availability of places. Some restictions may apply if the student is spending part of the second year on a study abroad scheme.

Course Modules

Core modules, common to all the business management degrees, provide a solid grounding in the principles and practice of all fundamental aspects of business management. A choice of specialised electives is offered in years two and three to strengthen your knowledge and skills and to introduce you to the most recent trends and issues in their theory and practice. Third year electives cover a range of topics and are not restricted to the specialist areas represented by the individual degree pathways. In year three, you also have the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to pursue in-depth independent research and study on a business-related theme of your choice in the form of the final-year project. If you are studying BSc Business with Marketing, the final-year project theme must be related to a marketing subject.
