Course Introduction

On this course you’ll gain a strong understanding of design techniques for electronics systems, as well as their use in areas such as control,

telecommunications and consumer products. You’ll also use the latest computer-interfacing technologies in our National Instruments Laboratory. There’s the option to work in an industry placement for a year too, potentially in Germany, with the chance to study German at our partner institution, Hochschule Bremen.

Course Modules

Year 1: Engineering mathematics and modelling; Design and practice; Engineering principles; Introduction to electrical and electronic principles. Year 2: Advanced engineering mathematics and modelling; Circuits, signals and systems; Instrumentation and control using Labview; Principles of control; Managing the engineering process; Electrical machines and power electronics; Analogue, digital and mixed signal circuit design; Electrical services and lighting for buildings. Year 3: Optional placement year. Year 4: Innovation and enterprise; Control engineering; Project; Advanced analogue and digital techniques; Radio frequency (RF) systems; Power systems, energy converters and drives; Systems for environmental services and lighting.
