**About this course**

On this course, you’ll examine how the English language works in the real world. You’ll look at how language is used at work and leisure, how people learn and teach languages, how different languages ‘see’ the world, and how people use language for identity.

You’ll analyse grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and conversation, from the smallest sounds to complex discourse. You’ll investigate accents and dialects, language use, variation, change, and links to society.

Through an extended piece of work, such as a dissertation, you’ll specialise in an area of language and linguistics of your choice.
