Budget London

Living in a global city such as London doesn’t have to be expensive.

Here are some of our tips to help you save money and keep within your budget.

Student accommodation

If your university is located within central London, you can save a large amount of money by living outside central London and travelling to your lectures.

Buy a cheap second-hand cycle and you can even save on transport costs. Alternatively, think about sharing accommodation (and house bills) with your friends.

London transport

Remember to apply for your student travel card, which can save you up to 33 percent on your transport.

Restaurants

Research before your eat. London has thousands of restaurants with cuisine from all over the world.

Read an online guide such as Timeout’s Cheap Eats Guide to help you find the best cheap places to eat in London.

Shopping

In addition to signing up for loyalty cards at your favourite shops and supermarkets, you can also use your NUS student card or ISIC card to get even more discounts.

Look out for voucher schemes such as BrightsideUNIAID, where you can save money and contribute to charity at the same time.

Entertainment

London has hundreds of free events taking place each week and most of the major galleries and museums are free to enter.

In the summer you can visit one of London’s nine Royal Parks to enjoy a picnic with friends.
