The MRes in Applied Science is aimed at those prospective postgraduate students that wish to gain a Masters degree by research in an applied aspect connected to physical and/or biological sciences. At present subject areas available include most forensic disciplines, fire science and applied bioscience. The qualification is two years in length by part time study and is aimed at those who have full time jobs related to the subject area and wish to pursue a project in conjunction with their employers. Each MRes programme is tailored to the employers needs with specific objectives related to academic attainment. The programme involves site visits and evaluation meetings on campus, a viva and submission of the final project report. Activities are scheduled to be compatible with the students normal work routine forging a unique relationship between staff and student. The MRes can also be completed as a full time research degree based at the University over a duration of one year. The MRes in Applied Science is a particularly flexible industry biased postgraduate qualification designed to appeal to those prospective students focused on their profession and their next job move whether it be internal promotion or transfer to a new company position.
