Course Introduction

This course concentrates on how design might be a catalyst for innovation at all levels. This includes new products and services, new processes, new ways of working, managing creative teams and collaborating with stakeholders, new businesses and new practices.

Our exciting programme varies annually and has typically included activities such as the Made in Brunel ‘Masters 2025’ event and competitions sponsored by BT, KFC, Heathrow Airport and Crown Packaging.

The course is delivered through lectures, workshops, self'study and individual and group project work.

You’ll be assessed on your written assignments, presentations and research project.

Graduates of our Design Strategy and Innovation MA are employed by the likes of Procter & Gamble, LG Electronics, Asus, Plan and Seymourpowell in positions that include innovation consultant, design strategist, design manager and business developer.

Course Modules

Modules include: strategic design management; branding strategy studies; innovation strategy and management; design research; design innovation futures (seminar and workshop programme); design innovation research project 1 and 2; dissertation.

Qualifications required:

  • A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in a design or a closely related creative discipline; other subjects with relevant work experience will be assessed on an individual basis; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 580 (with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with a minimum of 20 in reading, writing, listening, speaking and writing); Pearson 58 (with a minimum of 51 in all areas); or BruneELT 65 per cent (with a minimum of 60 per cent in all areas).
