Building Services Engineering is an interdisciplinary profession. It involves the specification, design, installation and management of all the engineering services associated with the built environment.
At Brunel, we offer three pathways in Building Services Engineering so you can specialise in the areas that are right for you.
Building Services Engineering Management MSc is a distance'learning course for professional engineers who have, or wish to have, management responsibility.
Brunel’s Building Services Engineering Management MSc course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and the Energy Institute.
The course received the Happold Brilliant Award for teaching excellence from the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.
The programme enables you to conduct most of your studies at home, in your own time. Students are supplied with a study pack of text books and CDs. You can take your examinations either at Brunel or in your country of residence.
The dissertation is carried out in one year.
Modules are assessed by formal examination and/or written assignments.
Our graduates work in building services and construction'related consultancies such as Hoare Lea, WSP Group, Faber Maunsell and Hilson Moran. Other employers include county councils’ building management and environmental departments, EDF Energy, Skanska and Honeywell Control Systems.
You can also progress to academic research.
Modules include: building heat transfer and air conditioning; electrical services and lighting design; acoustics, fire, lift and drainage; engineering finance and accounting; management of people in engineering activities; organisation of engineering business; management of facilities and engineering contracts; dissertation.

- A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in an engineering, appropriate science or technology discipline; other qualifications and relevant experience will be assessed on an individual basis; students whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS: 6 (min 5.5 in all areas); Pearson: 51 (51 in all subscores); BrunELT: 60% (min 55% in all areas).
