Course Introduction

The Advanced Manufacturing Systems MSc addresses the challenges of modern manufacturing and enterprise systems. It enables students to appreciate and deal with the complexities of modern industrial environments where there is constant and growing demand for well'educated manufacturing engineers.

Full'time: You’ll learn through lectures, tutorials and group/seminar work. You’ll also undertake a dissertation project.

Distance'learning: The programme is designed so you can conduct most of your studies at home, in your own time. Students are supplied with a study pack of text books and CDs. You can sit the examinations either at Brunel or in your country of residence. The dissertation is carried out in one year.

Your work on the modules will be assessed by examination and/or written assignments.

Many engineering companies require graduates who can demonstrate not only technological, but also managerial and entrepreneurial skills. There are jobs in manufacturing for graduates from many engineering disciplines with opportunities in design, production, supply chain or logistics.

Course Modules

Modules include: systems modelling and simulation; manufacturing systems, design and economics; sustainable design and manufacture; advanced manufacturing measurement; robotics and manufacturing automation; computer aided engineering 1; dissertation. Optional modules include: Design of mechatronics systems (full'time students only); project management; quality management and reliability; global manufacturing; logistics and global supply chain management (distance learning only); managing people and organisations (distance learning only).

Qualifications required:

  • A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in an engineering, science or technology discipline. Other subjects with relevant work experience will be assessed on an individual basis.
