Brunel University London

Course Introduction

Brunel is ranked 5th in London for Communication and Media studies (The Complete University Guide 2018) Our Communication and Media Studies degree is closely connected with sociology at Brunel. We aim to provide you with a mature, critical and sociologically informed understanding of the place of the media in today’s society, with a particular focus on new communication and information technologies. Despite being a central part to our existence we tend to take for granted, and to underestimate, the social and cultural impact of media communications in today’s world. As a student on this course you’ll learn, theoretically and practically, how communication and information media works and its importance to our society. On this flexible course you’ll be able to specialise in areas of particular interest to you. For example, you could specialise in the impact of the internet and other information and communications technologies or social media, media policy and regulation. Opt for our Communications and Media degree with a sandwich year and you could gain an industrial placement at a company such as Deluxe Entertainment and the Disney Channel. On this four year thin sandwich degree, you will typically spend two periods on work placements, which are likely to extend through the summer vacation.
