Course Introduction

This programme offers students an international and inter'linguistic orientation in current philosophical work. Students undertake detailed study of recent influential texts, undertaken as far as possible in the original languages and a major contemporary thinker of their choice.

Course Modules

Modules include: Contemporary European philosophies special study; contemporary European philosophies; dissertation. Optional modules: Critique, practice, power; Hegel and his legacy; Kant and his legacy; Kant and the aesthetic tradition; philosophy of art history; recent Italian philosophy.

Qualifications required:

  • Applicants should normally hold a good (upper-second [2:1] or first-class honours, or the equivalent) undergraduate degree in philosophy or a related subject. A good reading knowledge of French is a requirement for admission to the programme; the minimum expectation is proficiency at B1 (Common European Framework of reference for Languages). Applicants with other kinds of qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirement, which is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no element below 5.5.
