The course is designed to support students to reflect at an advanced level on their profession, their practice and new, original ways in which they can contribute to the professional knowledge base in their area. The course is layered to enable students to engage with understanding traditional research methods and new pragmatic methods of research which can be used to conduct research in the professional setting.

- Applicants should have a Master's degree or equivalent in the relevant field of study. In addition applicants are, where appropriate, normally required to have at least 2 years relevant professional experiences; endorsed by (where appropriate and relevant) membership of a professional body or institute. Applicants are required to have appropriate relevant professional experience and to be engaged in professional practice. Applicants are required to be researching or developing practice in an area which falls within the University's current research activities to enable the University to appoint supervisors who are familiar with the relevant area of research and practice.
