Course Introduction

We aim to provide a thriving research environment and advanced training in a broad range of areas relating to Green Process Engineering, Explosions and Fire Research and Petroleum Engineering. Our research is supported via our collaborative research links and is funded by the EPSRC, The Royal Society, European Commission and industrial partners.

REF also awarded 80% of LSBU's research into General Engineering the two highest quality ratings (4* or 3*) for 'impact' (research and significance).

A PhD, by definition, is an original contribution to knowledge. A research degree is different from a taught course. Research students are expected to self'direct their learning with support from a supervisory team.

Qualifications required:

  • When applying for a Research Degree Programme at LSBU you are expected to have a good honours degree. If you have the equivalent of a lower second or third class honours you would also need a Postgraduate qualification at Masters level. You will also be required to show proof of all of your qualifications.
