Course Introduction

This course offers professional training in the epidemiology of communicable and non'communicable diseases; it also provides essential statistical skills related to the health problems of both the developed and the developing world; graduates from the course pursue careers in medical research; public health and community medicine; epidemiological field studies; disease surveillance units; drug/vaccine manufacturers; or disease control in governmental, NGO's or donor institutions.

Course Modules

Modules include: Fundamentals of epidemiology; statistics with computing; practical epidemiology; research planning, scientific reporting and refereeing; plus optional modules.

Qualifications required:

  • A 2nd Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in health-related discipline or in statistics or other appropriate subject; work experience in health sciences/care is desirable but not essential; candidates with appropriate professional or technical qualifications in health-related field together with at least 3 years' relevant experience, which satisfies University as qualification equivalent to good Honours degree, will be considered on individual basis; degree or appropriate professional or technical qualification will be considered for admission to Postgraduate Diploma.
