Course Introduction

The course provides the opportunity to work with a range of well'established writers in a dynamic writing environment in the UK without students having to relocate or give up their current job; there are 2 periods of residency where students study together at Kingston, the rest of study is via distance learning. A variety of activities and tuition during residency periods, including writing workshops, critical reading seminars, masterclasses, guest readings, and visits to cultural events.

Course Modules

Core modules: Dissertation; critical challenges for creative writers (residency module 1); special study: workshops in popular genre writing (distance learning); structure and style (residency module 2); writers’ workshop (low residency).

Qualifications required:

  • We normally expect applicants to have: a second class degree or above, or equivalent, in creative writing, English literature, literature and language, drama or theatre studies or a similar subject; and/or a demonstrable interest in creative writing. You must also submit a 3,000-word sample of creative writing, a personal statement (1,000 words) plus references. All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with 7.0 in Writing and 5.5 in all other elements.
