Course Introduction

The course: gives students a comprehensive grounding in philosophy of education; explores the relevance to education today of ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind and epistemology; enables students to think philosophically about their own educational concerns; helps students to argue a case and to evaluate the arguments of others on controversial issues.

Modules include: Philosophy of education: values, aims and society; theory and policy in education: an introduction; understanding education research.

A 1st degree, including some study of philosophy or a related subject and experience of some form of educational work.
