Course Introduction

The course provides support for teachers through sustained continuing professional development. It is designed for practising teachers in the UK who are interested in their own learning for the benefit of their pupils or students; it builds on prior learning and accredits it through a professional development portfolio.

Course Modules

Core modules: Professional development portfolio 1 (30 credits); professional development portfolio 2 (30 credits); understanding teaching (30 credits) (for P route students only); dissertation (60 credits) or report (30 credits); other modules (depending on route): leading learning (30 credits); research and professional practice (30 credits); teaching and learning in urban settings (30 credits); optional modules.

Course Additional Entry

Good Honours degree or equivalent; successful completion of initial teacher training and/or gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); practising teachers (full'time or part'time) in the UK for the duration of the course; strong references from appropriate referees; met the Institute's English language proficiency requirements for overseas students, as with all master's courses.
