We offer an exciting programme of courses covering the language, literature, history, culture, cinema and art of Spanish' and Portuguese'speaking societies from undergraduate to PhD level. This degree course aims to enable you to become a proficient user of Spanish, with a critical appreciation of the literature, art, cinema and cultural histories and geographies of the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain) and Latin America, including Brazil, in modules taught by internationally renowned specialists. Ours is a community of scholars with shared interests in interdisciplinary topics and cross'cultural research. Our affiliated research centres provide an important platform for this exchange: Birkbeck Research in Aesthetics of Kinship and Community (BRAKC), the Centre for Iberian and Latin American Visual Studies (CILAVS), and the new centre for Comparative Research in European Cultures and Identities (CRECI). Birkbeck offers a lively student experience, as well as student support and facilities. Birkbeck is different: classes are in the evening, so you can work, volunteer or do your own thing during the day. Record numbers of students are doing just that and getting a head start on their future careers.
