Course Introduction

This course is designed to advance analytical skills in the core subject areas of civil engineering including structural analysis, sustainability and hydraulics. Application of modern information technology techniques to complex problem solving is a theme that runs through the course. This course also covers broader issues of project and process management in civil engineering. The internship course has the added advantage of including a 6 months internship incorporated into the period of study. This makes it ideal for students seeking to add a practical dimension to their studies and understand the demands of workplace supervision and management. Internship opportunities exist throughout the civil and construction industry within the UK.

Course Modules

Modules include: advanced structural analysis; hydraulics and environmental protection; seismic design of structures; research methods; dissertation. Optional modules include: engineering project management; applied geotechnics under dynamic loading.

Course Additional Entry

An Honours degree, minimum 2.1, in civil or structural engineering or other engineering qualification at equivalent level. Alternatively, a lower level qualification in a numerate area (e.g. BSc/BEng in engineering) together with appropriate experience will also be considered. International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components.
