Biomaterials for Biomedical Sciences is an interdisciplinary subject combining the underpinning sciences behind control of a materials properties (through chemical and physical control of a materials structure, synthesis and production routes) and its response to immersion in the physiological environment, with understanding of normal physiological processes and human pathology. The aim is to develop students with a core understanding of the phenomena behind both a biomaterials response to the physiological environment and the response of the biological system to the presence of a biomaterial, as a pathway to the discovery and design of new biomaterials and therapies in healthcare.
