Open to international students only, our BA Politics (with International Foundation Year) is suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for an undergraduate degree. This four'year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of undergraduate study. International students who are admitted to this programme will normally be eligible for a four'year CAS and student visa. This will last the duration of the degree. Our English language and academic skills modules supplement your academic subjects. The degree provides a thorough grounding in some of the major aspects of modern political studies: political history, political ideas, UK and European politics, the politics of non'Western countries, and international studies. We take a distinctive approach to the subject, extending beyond the conventional boundaries of the discipline. You won't simply learn about politics in terms of what happens in the Houses of Parliament and conventional arenas of power, but also what happens on the streets, in art galleries, and in the non'Western world. We'll defamiliarise you from what you think you already know, and encourage you to look at politics from a different perspective. We have a lively events programme that attracts renowned speakers, meaning that you'll have the opportunity to hear the latest political arguments, theories and ideas. The Department of Politics has links with the Home Office, Department for Transport, local government and the European Commission. We've been recognised as one of the UK's top political universities as voted for by students (Which? University 2014).
