Course Introduction

The course provides knowledge, skill, and understanding in the core areas of the field of business,organisational, occupational and consumer psychology. The course has excellent links with industry as well an engagement with research through the ongoing research seminars.The teaching approach is experiential and emphasises how theory is applied in practice, so all lectures include a practical component to highlight how psychology research may influence the workplace. The course aims to enhance understanding of human behaviour within the workplace, covering topics such as: Recruitment and selection; training; stress management; work and wellbeing; work design; work motivation; designing and facilitating organisational change; workplace coaching; design of effective performance management processes; psychology of branding; consumer behaviour; psychology of advertising.

Course Modules

Modules: Psychological assessment; change and consultancy; leadership, engagement and motivation, work and well'being; human resource development (HRD) and learning; coaching; consumer psychology for marketing; consumer decision making; dissertation; work placement (optional).

Course Additional Entry

Successful applicants will normally have a good psychology degree (minimum 2.2). For those wishing to follow the occupational psychology route and undertake the BPS chartership post'MSc (stage 2 qualification) and to qualify for professional practice as an occupational psychologist, a GBC or equivalent psychology degree will be required. For business and consumer routes normally a 2.2 Honours degree, or equivalent, containing at least 50% psychology in areas such as social psychology, personality and research methods. We would also welcome applications from those a business/consumer psychology, marketing or advertising background. Those with relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience will also be considered on an individual basis. Applicants who do not have English as a 1st language also require a recognised English language qualification such as IELTS with a minimum overall 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all components.
