Course Introduction

This interdisciplinary course is aimed at applicants whose interest in language spans more than one discipline. Building on a first degree in linguistics, speech sciences, psychology, cognitive science, or a cognate discipline, students plan their own programme of study, selecting from a range of modules in several different UCL departments.

Course Modules

Core modules: introduction to syntax; research methods: principles, skills and applications; foundation course (transferable skills). Options: auditory processing; cognition and communication; language development; language processing and pathology; neurobiology of language; phonetics and phonology; semantics and pragmatics; speech processing (perception and production); syntax and morphology; theory construction and modelling.

Course Additional Entry

Normally a minimum of an upper 2nd Class UK Honours degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a language'related area such as linguistics, speech sciences, English language, psychology, cognitive science, or a cognate discipline.
