University of Roehampton

Course Introduction

The MA Creative Writing (specialist pathway) provides an intensive opportunity for students to focus on a single writing form: Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Fiction for Young Readers or Poetry. The dissertation is substantially longer than on the MA Creative Writing, requiring a greater degree of intensive independent work. At the same time, these degrees offer a significant proportion of structured teaching time and a variety of feedback styles from different tutors/guest lecturers.

Course Additional Entry

A good 2nd Class Honours degree is normally required as well as a portfolio of writing, consisting of approximately 2000 words of prose (fiction, creative non'fiction, journalism) or 15 pages of poetry. If a candidate demonstrates sufficient skill and professional experience in writing, the previous degree requirement may be waived. English requirement is IELTS score of 6.5 in all bands, or equivalent.
