Course Introduction

This is a specialist degree that aims to provide practical and theoretical training in areas of major financial interest, in particular Investment management and corporate finance. At the same time its ambition will be to gain, like other programmes being offered by leading universities, full exemption from the CISI Diploma. Designed for students and professionals who aim to pursue a career in finance and other, related areas, this programme provides a unique set of perspectives on how financial markets operate, grounded in economic and financial theory and practice. Examples of topics covered include: optimal capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, portfolio management, risk management, derivatives and finance microstructure. The programme will bring the latest advances of applied research and is specifically designed to impart a thorough knowledge of the main components of commercial and investment banking and the changing structure of the international financial industry. It is designed so as to offer flexibility and progressive specialization to educate experts the industry is requiring and includes nine compulsory modules that are the necessary foundations to master financing and capital budgeting issues.

Course Modules

Pre'sessional modules: Mathematics; statistics. Compulsory modules: Financial statements; investment management; commercial and investment banking; quantitative methods; eviews; banking regulation; applied wealth management; financial derivatives; portfolio construction theory; elective; dissertation.

Course Additional Entry

At least a good 2nd Class Honours degree (high 2.2) or overseas equivalent in a subject with some quantitative elements. Subjects likely to contain sufficient quantitative elements (which have at least 1 mathematics or statistics based module) including mathematics, science, engineering, economics, finance, accounting, business and management. Note that all aspects of your application will be taken into consideration and so attaining the criteria above does not guarantee admission.
