Course Introduction

This is a highly applied degree which lets you obtain the knowledge and skills required by the British Psychological Association stage 1 diploma in forensic psychology. An ideal course for anyone who wishes to work in an applied legal or criminological setting. This course, through a combination of lectures, workshops, exercises and field trips, will give you the skills and knowledge you need to start working towards your career as a forensic psychologist. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society as meeting the requirements of Stage 1 of the diploma in forensic psychology.

Course Modules

Modules include: Psychology and criminal behaviour; the investigation and prosecution of criminal offences; introduction of assessment and intervention; applied assessment and intervention; professional context and practice of forensic psychology; advanced research design and analysis for psychology; forensic psychology project. Optional modules: Applied legal psychology; psychology and the penal system; psychology and sexual violence; psychology and the sexual exploitation of children and young people; international perspectives in forensic psychology.

Course Additional Entry

Applicants should have at least a 2.1 degree in psychology (however we may also consider a 2.2 if you have relevant work experience). Graduate basis for chartership with the British Psychological Society. Applicants must have a good understanding of the role of a forensic psychologist; skills and ability to benefit from the course.These requirements will be assessed via the application form (which should include a copy of your transcript), interview and references. All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component (or equivalent).
