Course Introduction

Students on this programme are are expected to develop critical analytical skills in assessing the global environment for business, identify new international business opportunities and analysing international markets and industries, deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively, and communicate clearly to a range of audiences; the programme will provide those without a 1st degree in business with a good grounding in business management, followed by specialised international business modules, specialist project and guided internship; a particular feature of the programme is commercial relevance and employability, designed to enhance knowledge and skills particularly sought by global employers; the programme includes 12 months of certified work experience after the completion of taught courses but in conjunction with independent research; while the Business School assists with search and preparation, the responsibility for finding suitable certified work experience is the student's; if no suitable certified work experience is available after successful completion of the taught courses and dissertation the student will graduate with the award of MA International Business; the aims of the programme are: to consolidate, in a practical context, advanced knowledge and management of organisations competing internationally; to challenge to question preconceptions and to remove boundaries to handle complex situations holistically; to build interpersonal skills and leadership potential so as to be able to interact effectively with a range of specialists and to implement agreed solutions effectively and efficiently.

Core options: foundations of scholarship; financial and management accounting; business research methods; global strategy: analysis and practice; competition and business risk; global business; global enterprise and innovation; specialist project; a 1'year guided internship. Plus 3 options within 1 of the specialist pathways: fast growing economies (economies of emerging markets; micro finance for development; sustainable investment and trade); public policy (regulatory institutions of the world economy; public policy; liberalisation, regulation and public services); general management (e'logistics and international supply chain management; international marketing; managing and leading people across cultural borders; international business law); general management (business networks; consultancy project; management and consultancy toolbox).

Course Additional Entry

Applicants should have: a good relevant first degree from a recognised university; students without English as their first language must have an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent recognised alternative (no skill should be less than 5.5).
