The programme provides professionals from non'governmental, trade union and development sectors with a critical understanding of the employment, labour and human capital development related issues within the globalised economy. The programme will also appeal to recent graduates with global justice concerns. It covers the major aspects of sustainable work and employment including inequality and growth, climate change, labour and social movement strategies. The course is part time and taught through a combination of face to face classes and online materials over a period of two years (for the full MA). On this course students study the role of civil society organisations in developing economies and look in detail at the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. In the context of globalisation, work and employment students also examine social movements, the use of media and technology, as well as the exploration of the impact of climate change on working life. Modules covering contemporary globalisation, culture and management ethics and labour strategies under Neo' Liberalism ensure a programme of study that is modern and relevant to today's HR practitioners.
For the MA you must complete the following modules, totalling 180 credits: Globalisation and work; the role of civil societies in developing economies; millennium development goals; social movements' use of media and technology; climate change and working life; labour strategies under neoliberalism; globalisation, culture and management ethics; dissertation.
Course Additional Entry
A 2nd Class Honours degree or above, or an overseas equivalent qualification. Your first degree doesn't have to be in business. Applicants without a degree who have practical experience in personnel work will also be considered, but you will need to demonstrate your ability on the basis on courses already attended, references supplied, a 2,000 word essay and an interview. Part'time students should be currently employed or have past experience in posts with significant personnel'related responsibilities. International entry requirements: We accept the equivalent of the above from a recognised overseas qualification. English language requirements: Competence in English language and we normally require grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).
