Course Introduction

This LCF course prepares you for a career as a practitioner in fashion hair and make'up design. You will learn the practical skills of hair and make'up design, as well as studying the convergence of fashion with time'based media and new technologies and platforms. This sector of the fashion industry and the position of the make'up and hair designer will be explored. You will learn research skills, which will underpin your creative practice and develop your analytical skills and critical awareness. Contact with the industry throughout the course increases your options for employment after graduation, and you will be able to attend workshops to help you prepare for employment. You will undertake collaborative projects, which will emphasise the importance of teamwork, and you will also work independently to develop your skills and personal style in preparation for working in the industry. You will be based in Lime Grove in Shepherd's Bush, just west of Holland Park and Notting Hill.

Course Modules

Year 1: Introduction to study in higher education (hair and make'up for fashion); design, technique and process; introduction to cultural and historical studies; design technique practice; collaborative practice (fashion spreads). Year 2: Cultural and historical studies; mediating fashion image; professional development (hair and make'up for fashion); research methods for hair and make'up for fashion; style and signature. Year 3: Conceptual development; cultural and historical studies dissertation; final major project.
