Course Introduction

This course aims to give students instruction and practice in a broad range not only of forms, but also of strategies and techniques within those forms. We seek to create a supportive but constructively critical environment for circulating and evaluating students' creative and journalistic work and to foster a broad span of creative and critical writing skills, including the ability to work independently on a long creative/critical project.

Course Modules

Modules include: elements of writing (fiction); creativity; feature and screen writing; writers at work; independent writing project.

Course Additional Entry

Applicants must possess a UK 1st or 2nd class (2.1) Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification. Other qualifications and relevant professional or practical experience will be assessed on an individual basis. A sample of your creative writing (i.e. short stories; novel'in'progress; poems; play or film scripts; articles for newspapers) between 2 and 5000 words which applicants feel demonstrates appropriate ability and commitment will be required at application stage. Applicants may be invited to an interview. Entry criteria are subject to change. English language requirements: IELTS: 7.5 (min 7W, 7L, 7R, 7S); Pearson: 73 (58 in all subscores); BrunELT: 75 per cent (min 70 per cent in all areas).
