Our specialist degree aims to produce automotive engineering graduates of the highest calibre, fully equipped with the key technical and managerial skills needed to design, develop and manufacture future environmentally friendly road vehicles which perform well at acceptable cost. You'll study analytical and computational skills, and principles and concepts appropriate to the design and operation of road car and commercial vehicles, for example materials, manufacturing methods, internal combustion engines, aerodynamics, vehicle performance and electronics. Specialist modules, including low carbon and lightweight vehicle technologies, are also included. Our degree is a fine balance of the practical and the commercial, incorporating professional skills such as management and law. Our aim is to equip you with everything you need to become a technical or managerial leader in the exciting, fast'moving automotive sector.
Level 1 Core: Fundamentals of solid body mechanics; fundamentals of thermofluids; analytical methods and skills; engineering materials, manufacturing and electrical machines; introduction to engineering design; automotive engineering laboratories. Level 2 Core: Automotive vehicle design and performance; solid body mechanics; thermofluids; computing, analytical methods, control and instrumentation; professional engineering; applications and practice. Level 3: Work Placement (thick sandwich mode of study). Level 4 Core: Major individual project; automotive structures, propulsion and manufacture; FEA, CFD and design of engineering systems; professional engineering practice. Level 5 (MEng only): Major group project; advanced automotive propulsion and sustainability; advanced automotive performance and reliability; strategic management, innovation and enterprise; advanced thermofluids; advanced solid body mechanics.
