Course Introduction

The foundation year will ensure you have the skills and grounding required to advance onto your chosen degree programme. Throughout your studies, you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the competitive, fast'paced world of international fashion design. Our vibrant fashion department is situated at the heart of the London fashion industry. You will be taught by fashion professionals and academic specialists who reflect a wide range of contemporary fashion and current industry practice. In addition to being perfectly placed in a fashion capital of the world, you will benefit from small class sizes and quality individual contact time, frequent visiting speakers from industry and academia, fashion shows and fashion shoots, and our strong contacts with industry. You will also have the opportunity to study in Paris, to take part in live projects with industry, and to gain work experience with a fashion company in London.

Course Modules

Stage 1 (foundation) modules: 3'd form 1; computer design 1; drawing and design principles; historical and contextual studies; sewing techniques; the design process; the fashion cycle; plus general education courses. BA (Hons) year 1: 3'd form 2; body in culture; creative drape; fashion portfolio 1; marketing for fashion; targeting customers; textiles for fashion 1. BA (Hons) year 2: 3'd form 3; computer applications for fashion; fashion accessories; fashion portfolio 2; fashion trends; styling fashion; womenswear 1 and 2. BA (Hons) year 3: collection project; design and sustainability; fashion collection 1'3; fashion menswear; final fashion portfolio; thesis or fashion business. Optional modules: design study; fashion events; fashion shows; in'store promotion; journalism for fashion; retailing for fashion; study tour.
