Course Introduction

This four year course with a placement year gives you valuable practical skills and a competitive edge when looking for your first graduate job. Opt for a sandwich course and you'll gain fantastic work experience on placement with one of our great partner organisations. Students have recently spent time at secondary and primary schools, Brunel Sports Centre, Christ's Hospital, Leeds City College, Sussex County Cricket Club, Hays Personnel, Featherstone Rovers, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Sport Impact, Fitlab, Northampton FC and Access Sport. As well as our Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences BSc course we also offer specialist programmes giving you the chance to explore and connect your interests.

Course Modules

Level 1 Core: Fundamentals of sport, health and exercise sciences; physical activity, health and wellbeing; introduction to the social sciences of sport; physical education and sport pedagogy; research and learning skills 1; synoptic study 1. Level 2 Core: Research and learning skills 2; physical activity, health and wellbeing in the lifecourse; work based learning. Options: (choose four) applied sport and exercise physiology; biomechanics of human movement; young people, sport and identity; delivery of sports development; theory and application in sports psychology; physical literacy and child development; pedagogy and policy'individual needs; applying sport sciences to practice: coaching and teaching effectiveness. Level 3: Optional Work placement.. (for thick'sandwich mode of study). Level 4 Core: Major project and project management; issues in physical activity, health and wellbeing; professional practice'based learning 3; synoptic study 3. Options: (choose four) physiology of the high performance athlete; biomechanical analysis techniques; applied sport psychology; sporting communication; managing sport development; physical literacy and the learning environment; pedagogy and policy: critical issues; applying sport sciences to practice: training principles.
